At Inlet Yoga, we believe yoga is more than a practice—it’s medicine for body, mind, and spirit. For many of our students here on the Jersey Shore, yoga isn’t just exercise; it’s a vital part of recovery, stress management, and long-term health.
One of the questions we hear often is:
“Can I use my Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for yoga?”
The answer is yes—sometimes! Let’s explore how it works, and how you can use these funds right here at Inlet Yoga in Manasquan, NJ.
✅ When Yoga Qualifies as an HSA/FSA Expense
The IRS allows HSA and FSA funds to be used for qualified medical expenses. While yoga classes on their own are not automatically covered, they may qualify if:
-
A licensed healthcare provider (doctor, physical therapist, etc.) prescribes yoga as part of a treatment plan.
-
You receive a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) from your provider recommending yoga for a specific health condition.
This is especially common when yoga is used for therapeutic purposes, including:
-
Breast cancer recovery yoga and gentle movement after treatment
-
Chronic pain management (hips, back, or joints)
-
Stress, anxiety, or depression support
-
Post-injury or post-surgery rehabilitation
Important Requirements at Inlet Yoga
Every student’s journey is unique, and we want to ensure your safety and success.
At Inlet Yoga, students who wish to use HSA/FSA funds for yoga must:
-
Be cleared by their doctor and in active recovery (after completing physical therapy, if applicable).
-
Provide a Letter of Medical Necessity from their healthcare provider.
-
Undergo a personal evaluation with Jennifer before beginning private sessions or therapeutic work.
This ensures that yoga becomes a supportive next step in your healing—not a replacement for necessary medical care.
Jennifer’s Experience in Breast Cancer Recovery Yoga
Over the years, Jennifer has worked closely with women in recovery from breast cancer, offering private sessions designed to rebuild strength and confidence gently. Many of these students had already completed traditional physical therapy and were told their range of movement and physical well-being had been taken as far as possible.
This is where yoga can step in. With simple tools, mindful techniques, and accessible practices, Jennifer has seen time and time again how yoga can expand upon the foundation created in physical therapy—helping students find greater mobility, ease, and vitality within a relatively short period of time.
Her first training in this area was under Tari Prinster, one of the pioneers in yoga for women with breast cancer. Since then, she has continued to deepen her expertise by studying modalities such as Chair Yoga, pranayama, myofascial release, meditation, restorative yoga, and through advanced education with Yoga Medicine, giving her a wide range of tools to meet each student where they are.
